Lindsay Buroker ~ Shout Out

Shouting out about Lindsay Buroker!

Lindsay is probably one of my favourite authors of all time. She’s not only constantly creating FANTASTIC books, she’s also keeping her fans happy by creating various short stories about the same characters in between and managing to keep super active on all forms of social media. She unbelievably manages to keep the rabid Sicarius fans (myself included) at bay by providing tasty tidbits of stories about said stoney-faced assassin at various intervals between the Emperor’s Edge (EE) books. Bravo Lindsay, bravo!

Lindsay tends to create stories that fit in the science-fiction/steam punk genres. For those of you who don’t know what steampunk is (and I admit I didn’t until reading Lindsay’s work) it is defined as below (good ol’ Wikipedia to the rescue!):

Steampunk is a genre that originated during the 1980s and early 1990s and incorporates elements of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, horror, and speculative fiction. It involves a setting where steam power is widely used—whether in an alternative history such as Victorian era Britain or “Wild West”-era United States, or in a post-apocalyptic time —that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy.

Lindsay writes a few different series, The EE series that you have probably seen on my blog (since I’ve blogged about it 3 or 4 times already), but she also writes a couple of other series. Encrypted and soon to be released Decrypted are books 1 and 2 in a different series based in the same world as the EE books, but is about different characters. There is some overlap between EE and Encrypted, my favourite assassin makes an appearance, but it’s only a minor part.

The other books by Lindsay include:

The Flash Gold Chronicles, currently including Flash Gold, Hunted and Peacemaker. These books are currently on my TBR list but they too have a fairly strong following.

Lindsay also has another book (The Goblin Brothers Adventures) that has a 4.14 average star rating after 36 ratings. That seems quite good to me!

Aside from writing fantastic fiction for her fans, Lindsay also is a professional blogger. She constantly writes brilliant posts about various topics, from her latest books, to tips and tricks for self publishing, to telling us all how she’s managed to promote her own books using social media to help bolster her sales. Lindsay doesn’t seem to shy away from sharing the nitty-gritty details about her venture into publishing and writing. She also has a lot of fun things on her blog, ranging from competitions for signed copies of her books, required designing a new hat for one of her EE characters, Maldynado to interviews with her characters. A particularly good one was the interview with Sicarius.

Lindsay is another author who highlights and applauds her fans when they create fan art and fanfiction. She’s blogged about it here and she’s even commissioned some drawings to compliment her later books. Here’s one of the commissioned images, but you can also check out the rest of Sweartoad’s gallery here.

There is a whole forum dedicated to Lindsay’s EE world, I have stopped by on occasion and read some of the rather fantastic fanfic on offer there. I know recently they had an adult *wink wink* writing competition. The idea was to write about Amaranthe and Sicarius. Some of the entries are rather good, but this forum isn’t just for that. It’s a place where Lindsay’s fans can go and connect with other fans of her work. Lindsay has also been known to poke her head in from time to time too. It’s just another reason why she’s one of my all time favourite authors! She obviously really enjoys interacting with her fans and it really does show.
